A profile of Youth Development Centre.

Status of YDC (Who we are)

Youth Development Centre (YDC) is a non-profit making Association (NGO)  registered with the Ministry of Territorial Administration with registration No 053/G.37/D14/1/Vol.T/T/OAPP. YDC was established in 1996 out of the need to meet the challenges of the impact of the economic crisis of the mid 1980s and 90s, which greatly affected Cameroon as a country and particular sectors such as: education, agriculture and health just to name these. The crisis caused alarming youth unemployment, juvenile delinquency, poor health service provision among others in the country. YDC decided to start a development initiative aimed at providing practical life and vocational skills to under privileged young people so that they can create their own employment or acquire employability skills which can enable them secure jobs or become self- reliant. The Organization employs a strategy of changing the mentalities of young people from looking up to only white-collar jobs provided by government and private companies to creating their own jobs and employing other youth. The Youth Development Centre focuses on primary health care, water, hygiene & sanitation targeting Primary school children, Youth, Women and the Underprivileged persons, conservation related activities, community development projects, vocational training and promoting sustainable agriculture and sporting activities.
